Having had the pleasure of a week with parents and mother-in-law, both myself and my wife are sitting on the sofa suffering with runny noses and sore throats. Isn't it funny how when you finally decide to rest your body enforces it through some sort of illness.
It does provide time to reflect, this has been our first Christmas without the children, one in Australia, one in America and one in Plymouth. It is rapidly approaching the time where visiting the children will mean a round the world ticket and at least a three week break.
One of the memorable points this year was certainly the Carol Service at our local church which was marvellous, particularly the completion of the Nativity scene where children were invited to join the vicar at the front of the church as she attempted to get the children to explain the scene. Lacking familiarity with such diverse age ranges led to predictable results "don't do that with Mary darling"!
Everyone in the congregation chuckled politely, particularly those of us who are teachers.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all of my readers.
